DON JUAN IN SOHO by Patrick Marber (after Moliere)
Brentwood Theatre May 2009
This is a modern re-telling of the classic Don Juan story with Moliere’s farcical, tragic, anarchic original of 1665 relocated to modern day Soho.: swank, new hotels and festering, old clip joints, crackheads in alleys and cokeheads in clubs. The destitute, the delirious, the broken and the brazen, the hustlers and hoorays, the media movers and merciless whores - all packed in to one seething square mile. Don Juan - the infamous amoral hedonist in a society entranced by sensation.
"Patrick Marber has fashioned a ravishing, thoroughly modern make-over for the worst sex-addict in theatrical history, Moliere's Don Juan. The humour and witty invective is imaginatively cruel, even sufficient to pleasure practising sadists. "
